Verified Material Grade
SS 304 or SS 316 and SS 316L on the chamber interior, shelves and trays, backed by mill test certificates issued in your company name.
Mecha Engineering builds GMP model vacuum tray dryers at its works in India and erects them at pharmaceutical, herbal, nutraceutical, chemical and food units across Zimbabwe. Hollow heating shelves, leak proof chamber, full vacuum and gentle drying for heat sensitive and hygroscopic material.
A vacuum tray dryer earns its place the moment a product refuses to survive a hot air oven. Zimbabwe has plenty of those products. Herbal and nutraceutical extracts from zumbani, moringa and baobab lose their actives and their colour above 60 degrees. Paprika oleoresin, natural colours and flavour powders are judged on exactly the colour and aroma a hot air oven strips out. Pharmaceutical intermediates and formulation powders in Harare and Bulawayo carry residual solvent that has to be pulled out and condensed, not blown into a shed. And a hygroscopic powder left in an open tray oven through a humid spell simply takes the moisture back.
Buyers searching for a vacuum tray dryer manufacturer in Zimbabwe are usually choosing between an importing agent and the works that actually builds the chamber. Mecha Engineering is the works, and we build the chamber around your product rather than around a catalogue number. The dryer uses specially designed hollow shelves through which steam or hot water circulates smoothly, so heat passes into the tray by contact instead of by air movement. Under vacuum the boiling point of the moisture drops sharply, which is what lets a delicate product dry faster and at a far lower temperature. Fabrication, polishing, leak testing and trial runs all happen at our own Saharanpur works in India.
These are the points a Zimbabwean buyer checks before opening a letter of credit, so we put them in writing rather than in a brochure line.
SS 304 or SS 316 and SS 316L on the chamber interior, shelves and trays, backed by mill test certificates issued in your company name.
Chamber, door and every nozzle are leak tested at our Saharanpur shop. The vacuum hold figure goes into your test report before the dryer is crated for shipment.
Erection, utility tie-in, vacuum pump and condenser piping, commissioning and operator training at your Zimbabwe site, quoted inside the supply scope.
You buy from the fabricator, not a trading house. No dealer margin, and we quote ex works India as well as CIF Durban or CIF Beira so you can compare landed cost.
Every feature below protects one of two things: the quality of the product on the tray, or the hours your operator spends loading and unloading it.
Hollow pad type shelves are designed for uniform circulation of steam or hot water, so heat reaches every tray at the same rate and the batch dries evenly from the front row to the back.
Pulling the chamber down drops the boiling point of the moisture, so a heat sensitive product dries at a far lower temperature and the cycle still finishes quicker than an air oven.
Heavy duty door with a high quality gasket seal, machined door frame and reinforced shell. The chamber holds its vacuum instead of making the pump work for the whole shift.
Shelves are fabricated and levelled so the tray sits flat on the pad. Contact area is what moves the heat here, and a warped shelf is what causes a wet patch in the middle of a tray.
Tray guides, a full width door and comfortable shelf spacing let one operator charge and discharge the dryer with minimal manual handling and no tipping at the edge.
Shell and tube condenser with receiver and vacuum trap where you dry off ethanol, methanol or IPA. Solvent is collected as condensate rather than passing through the pump.
Pick the model that matches your batch, or send your product name and wet cake weight and we will tell you which of these fits.
Pilot and development duty for formulation labs, QC departments and mining and metallurgical laboratories. Single door, electric or hot water heating, small footprint that fits an existing lab bay.

Scroll the table sideways on a mobile screen. Send your product name, wet cake weight per batch and the solvent involved and we will fill this sheet in against your process.
Tray count follows batch weight, and batch weight follows the bulk density of your wet cake. This is the shortlist we work through with a Zimbabwean buyer on the first call.
| Model | Indicative wet load per batch | Heating media usually chosen | Typical Zimbabwe application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 Tray | Around 10 to 15 kg | Electric or hot water | Formulation, QC and mining laboratories in Harare and Bulawayo |
| 12 Tray | Around 25 to 30 kg | Hot water | Pilot scale and small batch herbal extract units |
| 24 Tray | Around 50 to 60 kg | Steam or hot water | Herbal, nutraceutical and health product production in Harare |
| 48 Tray | Around 100 to 120 kg | Steam | Pharmaceutical and fine chemical drying in Harare and Bulawayo |
| 96 Tray, double door | Around 200 to 250 kg | Steam with a header on both faces | Bulk food, flavour and contract manufacturing units |
| Custom build | Quoted to your figure | Steam, thermic fluid or electric | Line matching, retrofit and non-standard tray sizes |
Loads above are indicative only. Actual capacity depends on your bulk density and the cake thickness you can spread on a tray, so share a sample figure and we will confirm the model against it.
Six stages from wet cake to dry powder. Your operator sees the same sequence on every batch, which is what keeps the moisture figure consistent.
Wet cake is spread on the trays to an even thickness and the trays are slid onto the heating shelves through the front door.
The door is closed against its gasket and the vacuum pump pulls the chamber down to the set level before heating begins.
Steam or hot water circulates through the hollow shelves. Heat passes by contact into the tray, so there is no air blast on the product.
Under vacuum the moisture boils off well below its normal point, so the product dries quickly without thermal damage.
Vapour passes into the condenser, is cooled and collects in the receiver. A vacuum trap keeps any carry over out of the pump.
Vacuum is broken through a filtered air line, the door is opened and trays are drawn out for milling, sifting or packing.
Drying of solvent wet cake, intermediates, granules and bulk powder for the pharmaceutical plants of Harare and Bulawayo, where residual solvent has to be condensed and recovered rather than vented.
Soft extracts and concentrates of zumbani, moringa, baobab and devil's claw, dried gently so that the actives and the colour survive the cycle.
Paprika oleoresin, natural colours, flavour powders and heat sensitive food ingredients where colour value and aroma retention decide the grade.
Dyes, pigments, catalysts and crystalline chemicals that are hygroscopic, oxygen sensitive or prone to degrading in a hot air oven.
Formulation and QC departments, and the mining and metallurgical laboratories that dry samples and concentrates where an open oven would change the result.
Multi-product units switching materials weekly, so they buy for quick changeover, easy cleaning and third party audit readiness.
Dryers are crated at our Saharanpur works and shipped through Mundra or Nhava Sheva to Durban or Beira, then moved by road to site. These are the centres we quote for most often.
Town not on the list? The list is only where we quote most often. Erection and after-sales service cover all ten provinces of Zimbabwe, and we supply other markets in southern and eastern Africa including Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Botswana.
A vacuum tray dryer rarely arrives alone, and shipping two machines in one consignment is cheaper than two. These are the machines Zimbabwean buyers most often order in the same enquiry.
Straight answers to what Zimbabwean buyers ask before placing an order.
Mecha Engineering Pvt. Ltd. designs and fabricates vacuum tray dryers at its own works at Village Meharbani on Behat Road, Saharanpur, India. The company was set up in 2022 and supplies drying, extraction, filtration, blending and process equipment to pharmaceutical, herbal, chemical, food and cosmetic units in Zimbabwe, across India and in other export markets.
Standard models run at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96 trays, and non-standard tray counts are built where a batch size falls between two models. Tell us the wet cake weight you want to dry in one batch and the thickness you can spread on a tray, and we work backwards to the tray count, shelf area and chamber size.
Two ways. Heat comes in by contact through the hollow shelves rather than by hot air blowing across the product, and the vacuum inside the chamber lowers the boiling point of the moisture so it leaves at a much lower temperature. Together they let a delicate herbal extract, oleoresin or pharmaceutical intermediate dry fully without the thermal degradation an air oven would cause.
The standard build uses SS 304 for the chamber interior, shelves and trays. SS 316 and SS 316L are used where the product or solvent is corrosive, or where a regulated audit requires it. Mill test certificates for every plate and pipe are issued in your company name and shipped with the dryer along with the GA drawing and test report.
If your cake is only water wet, a condenser is often skipped to save cost. If it carries ethanol, methanol, IPA, acetone or any other solvent, order the condenser, receiver, cooling coil and vacuum trap. It recovers the solvent as condensate, keeps vapour out of the vacuum pump and stops you venting solvent into the shed. On an imported solvent that recovery is worth real money.
Steam and hot water are the usual choice where a boiler is already on site. Thermic fluid is used where a higher shelf temperature is needed, and electric heating is offered on 6 and 12 tray models, which is what most laboratory and small batch buyers without a boiler choose. Tell us the utility you already have on the floor and we build the shelf circuit around it.
Yes. The vacuum pump and control panel are wired for a 415 V, 50 Hz three phase supply, which matches Zimbabwean site power. The standard water ring vacuum pump needs a water supply, so where water is scarce or expensive we quote a closed loop recirculation tank or an oil sealed pump instead. Tell us what you have and the utility list is sized against it at quotation stage.
Erection, utility tie-in, vacuum pump and condenser piping, the leak check, the first product batch and operator training at your Zimbabwe site are quoted inside the supply scope. Our engineers travel for commissioning and back your maintenance team afterwards with drawings, video support and a planned spares schedule.
Standard handover covers the general arrangement drawing, material of construction certificates, vacuum and leak test reports, weld and polish records, the operating and maintenance manual and a spare parts list. DQ, IQ and OQ protocols, along with a validation document set, are prepared on request for regulated and export buyers.
Standard 6 to 48 tray models are ready in 4 to 8 weeks from order confirmation. A 96 tray double door dryer or a fully automated unit takes 8 to 10 weeks. Allow a further 4 to 6 weeks for sea freight and inland haulage. Smaller models crate small enough to consolidate with other equipment in a shared container, which is worth planning if you are ordering more than one machine.
