Curcumin Extraction Plant Manufacturer in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe grows turmeric on a small but rising scale, mostly in the eastern highlands around Chipinge, Mutasa and the Honde Valley, and in parts of Mashonaland where growers have taken it up as a diversification crop alongside ginger and paprika. Almost all of it leaves the farm gate as dried or polished rhizome at commodity rates. The value sits downstream, in oleoresin for the food colour trade, in 95 percent curcuminoid powder for the supplement and export market, and with the health product formulators in Harare and Bulawayo who currently buy standardised extract in rather than make it.

A curcumin extraction plant in Zimbabwe is what closes that gap. Mecha Engineering is the manufacturer, not an importing agent. We start from the curcuminoid content of the rhizome you actually buy, the solvent your environmental and factory approvals allow and the grade your customer specifies, then size the extraction battery, evaporator, crystalliser and dryer around it. Design, fabrication, polishing and trials all happen at our own works in Saharanpur, India, and the standard build runs on a 415 V, 50 Hz three phase supply.

  • Assay before you commit. Courier 5 kg of your dried rhizome and we report the curcuminoid percentage and an achievable yield before the quotation goes out.
  • Shipped as one scope. Extraction battery, evaporator, crystalliser, dryer, panel and solvent piping leave the same works in one consignment, so there is no gap between the parts at site.
  • Audit ready paperwork. MOC certificates, GA drawings, weld and polish records, hazardous area details and IQ or OQ documents travel with the plant for GMP and export buyer audits.
  • A spares kit in the container. Gaskets, filter cloths, sight glasses, mechanical seals and flameproof fittings are packed with the plant, so the first service does not wait on a fresh shipment.

Build features

Features of Mecha Engineering Curcumin Extraction Plants:

Every feature below protects one of three things: the curcuminoids in your rhizome, the solvent in your inventory, or the operator on your floor.

01

High Curcuminoid Recovery

Multi-stage counter-current percolation moves fresh solvent against near-spent marc, so residual curcuminoids in the cake stay low instead of walking out with the waste.

02

Solvent Recovery Built In

Shell and tube condensers, a vent condenser and a desolventiser on the spent marc. Recovery runs in the high nineties, which is what decides the running cost of a curcumin line.

03

Low Temperature Concentration

Miscella is stripped under vacuum so the oleoresin never sees the temperature that darkens colour value or degrades curcuminoids in an open boil.

04

Crystallisation to 95 Percent

Chilled crystalliser with controlled cooling rate, centrifuge or filter press for the mother liquor, and a wash stage that lifts crystals to 95 percent curcuminoids and above.

05

Flameproof and Safe by Design

FLP motors and panels, nitrogen blanketing, flame arrestors, earthing and bonding, and a solvent storage layout built to pass a factory inspector and an insurance survey.

06

Manual to Fully Automatic

Start with hand valves and a local panel, or take PLC control with HMI recipe storage, batch logging and an audit trail when your export buyer asks for one.

Sections we supply

Curcumin Plant Sections for Zimbabwean Processors:

A curcumin plant is six sections working in sequence. Take the complete turnkey line, or add the one section your existing unit is short of.

Cleaning and Size Reduction

Destoner, magnetic separator, hammer mill or micro pulverizer and a vibro sifter bring dried rhizome down to a uniform 40 to 80 mesh, which is where solvent contact becomes predictable.

Feeds every downstream section

Solvent Extraction Battery

Three to six SS percolators on a counter-current cycle with circulation pumps, jacketed heating and a bottom false plate. Ethyl acetate, acetone, IPA or ethanol as your clearance allows.

The heart of the plant

Concentration and Solvent Recovery

Falling film or forced circulation evaporator followed by a vacuum distillation reactor. Miscella becomes oleoresin, and clean solvent returns to the day tank for the next batch.

Decides your running cost

Crystallisation and Purification

Jacketed crystalliser with chilled water or brine, slow agitation and a controlled cooling profile, then a solvent wash to strip resin and turmeric oil off the crystal.

Needed for 95% grade

Filtration and Separation

Sparkler filter press, bag and cartridge filters, and a basket or pusher centrifuge to part the crystals from mother liquor before drying.

Protects final purity

Drying, Milling and Packing

Vacuum tray dryer for crystals or a spray dryer for dispersible grades, then pulverising, sifting, ribbon blending to the assay you sell at, and packing under nitrogen.

How the plant runs

The Curcumin Extraction Cycle, Step by Step

Six stages from dried rhizome to packed powder. Your operator sees the same sequence on every batch, which is what keeps the assay consistent.

01

Rhizome Cleaning and Drying

Dried turmeric is destoned, demagnetised and checked for moisture. Anything above the target moisture goes back to the dryer before it reaches the mill.

02

Grinding to Mesh

A hammer mill or micro pulverizer with a vibro sifter brings the rhizome to 40 to 80 mesh. Too coarse and yield drops, too fine and the bed channels.

03

Counter-Current Extraction

Powder is charged to the percolators and solvent is circulated stage by stage. Fresh solvent meets the most spent bed, so the miscella leaves the battery at full strength.

04

Concentration to Oleoresin

Miscella is stripped under vacuum. Solvent condenses into the receiver for reuse and a thick turmeric oleoresin collects at the evaporator bottom.

05

Crystallisation and Washing

The oleoresin is dissolved, cooled on a controlled profile and crystallised. Mother liquor is centrifuged off and the crystals are washed to lift the assay to 95 percent.

06

Drying, Milling and Packing

Crystals dry in a vacuum tray dryer, then go to pulverising, sifting and blending to the sale assay, and are packed under nitrogen in food grade liners.

Where these plants are used

Supplement and Nutraceutical Units

Capsule, tablet and powder makers buying 95 percent curcuminoids with a consistent HPLC assay batch after batch, usually with PLC batch logging attached.

Health Product and Pharmaceutical Makers

Standardised extract lines for the pharmaceutical and health product manufacturers of Harare and Bulawayo, who ask for SS 316 contact parts and IQ or OQ documentation with the plant.

Food Colour and Spice Processors

Turmeric oleoresin for natural colour in sauces, bakery, snacks and seasoning blends, where colour value and food grade construction decide the order.

Beverage and Dairy Plants

Water dispersible and emulsified curcumin for juices, dairy drinks and functional beverages, produced through the spray drying section of the line.

Cosmetic and Personal Care

Tetrahydrocurcumin and purified turmeric extracts for creams, serums and soaps, where a colourless actives stream matters as much as the assay.

Contract Manufacturers and Exporters

Multi-product units that switch between oleoresin, 95 percent powder and blends, so they buy for quick changeover, recipe storage and third party audit readiness.

Questions we are asked

Curcumin Extraction Plants in Zimbabwe: FAQs

Straight answers to what Zimbabwean buyers ask before placing an order.

Who manufactures curcumin extraction plants for Zimbabwe?

Mecha Engineering Pvt. Ltd. designs and fabricates curcumin and turmeric oleoresin extraction plants at its own works at Village Meharbani on Behat Road, Saharanpur, India. The company was set up in 2022 and supplies extraction, filtration, drying and blending equipment to supplement, health product, food colour and export units in Zimbabwe, across India and in other overseas markets.

What capacity range can you supply to a Zimbabwe site?

Batch lines start at 100 kg of turmeric powder per charge for pilot and development work and run up to 1000 kg per batch. Turnkey plants are built from 1 TPD to 5 TPD of rhizome feed with multi-vessel counter-current batteries. Tell us the daily turmeric quantity you can actually source and we work backwards to the vessel size and the number of batches per shift.

How much curcumin will I actually get from a tonne of turmeric?

It depends on the curcuminoid content of the rhizome you buy, and local turmeric varies more than most buyers expect. A well run plant recovers the large majority of the curcuminoids present as oleoresin, with a further loss at the crystallisation stage. Rather than quote a number blind, we assay a 5 kg sample of your own rhizome and give you a yield figure you can budget against.

Which solvent should I plan for, and what approvals apply in Zimbabwe?

Ethyl acetate and acetone are the usual choices for curcuminoid extraction, with IPA or ethanol where a food grade or residual solvent limit applies and hexane for a defatting stage. The plant is built to suit whichever solvent your approvals allow. We provide the equipment list, solvent storage layout and hazardous area details that go with your environmental and factory licence application, but the approvals themselves sit with you and are worth settling before you fix a capacity.

Can you take me to 95 percent curcuminoid powder, or only to oleoresin?

Both. The extraction and concentration sections alone give turmeric oleoresin at roughly 25 to 40 percent curcuminoids, which is what a food colour buyer wants. Adding the crystalliser, centrifuge, wash stage and vacuum tray dryer takes the same feed to 95 percent curcuminoid crystals for the supplement and export trade. Many units start at oleoresin and add the purification block once the first export order is in hand.

How much solvent will I lose per batch?

A properly designed recovery train, meaning condenser, receiver, vent condenser and a desolventiser on the spent marc, holds recovery in the high nineties. That matters more here than in India, because the solvent is imported and paid for in hard currency, so every litre lost is a real cost. We size the condenser against your solvent and your actual cooling water temperature rather than against a catalogue figure.

What safety and hazardous area fittings are included?

Flameproof motors, a flameproof control panel and light fittings, earthing and bonding across all vessels and piping, flame arrestors on vents, and a solvent day tank located at the required distance. Nitrogen blanketing, gas detection and a sprinkler or hydrant tie-in are added where your insurer or inspector asks for them.

Will the plant run on Zimbabwean power and utilities?

Yes. The standard build is wired for a 415 V, 50 Hz three phase supply, which matches Zimbabwean site power, with flameproof equipment in the solvent area. Heating runs on steam or thermic fluid from whatever you have, and chilled water for the crystalliser is sized at quotation stage so you can check the load against your own supply and any generator you run.

Is installation and commissioning included for Zimbabwe sites?

Erection, solvent and utility piping, earthing, the water trial, the first turmeric batch and operator training at your Zimbabwe site are quoted inside the supply scope. Our engineers travel for commissioning and back your team afterwards with drawings, video support and a planned spares schedule.

What documentation is provided for GMP or export audits?

Standard handover covers the general arrangement drawing, material of construction certificates, hydro and vacuum test reports, weld and polish records, the operating and maintenance manual and a spare parts list. DQ, IQ and OQ protocols, along with a validation document set, are prepared on request for regulated and export buyers.

How long does delivery take, and how is the plant shipped?

A batch extraction and concentration section is ready in 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation. A full turnkey line with crystallisation, drying and PLC control takes 14 to 16 weeks. Allow a further 4 to 6 weeks for sea freight and inland haulage. The plant ships in containers through Mundra or Nhava Sheva to Durban or Beira, with flat racks for the taller vessels.

How do I get a price, and do you quote CIF?
